HOME ALONE ยท BULLDOGS, FRENCHIES & PUGS
The door shuts. Now what does your bulldog do?
Give them something better than the sofa: a puzzle to work through, a lick mat to work on and a soft toy to curl up with. Hand it over as you leave and put it away when you're back, so it stays special.

- Five minutes of calm sniffing or tug first, kept cool.
- Freeze the lick mat with wet food; load the treat puzzle with part of their daily kibble.
- Put the comfort item down where they rest โ rub it on your clothes first so it smells like home.
- Practise short departures: hand over the lick mat, step out for a minute or two, come back calmly; build up slowly over days.
- Pick the puzzles up afterwards so they stay special.
Something familiar
Something to work on
Enrichment toys can give your dog something to do while you're out. They aren't a treatment for separation anxiety. If your dog howls, destroys things, soils or tries to escape when left alone, talk to your vet or a qualified veterinary behaviourist. The approach with the best evidence is a gradual training plan, sometimes alongside medication your vet prescribes.
